Year 9 - Course Introduction
Skills-Based Workshops
During the three big terms you will explore three main themes in the Visual Arts world. The themes will be the main subjects studied by artists all over the world. Within these topics, workshops will take place so that you get a chance to experiment with a wide range of methods, techniques and processes. Click on each theme below to see the skills planned, these will differ slightly for each class as the teacher will adapt learning and skills based on your needs.

During the 12 week nature project you will: Explore drawing techniques and processes including: Pencil drawing Drawing from observation The formal elements Cross-hatching Tone Learn painting skills such as using water colour and inks. Have an introduction to printmaking exploring mono-print and etching.

Another theme often explored by artists is place, culture and landscape. You will unpick the opportunities of this theme with your teacher and your skills based workshops will involve: Developing and improving drawing skills. -Exploring mixed media methods such as collage, layering, texture and adding text. - Widening printmaking skill set through using lino print and etching. At this stage you will also be considering how to develop ideas and generate your own thinking and opinions about art.

The final aspect of the year 9 workshops will explore the theme of portraiture. During this 12 weeks you will: - Learn about proportion and perspective relative to the human form. - Understand how to look at portraits in different ways and use critical analysis skills. - Learn and develop upon painting skills using acrylic and oil paints. - Develop an understanding of how mixed media techniques and processes can be built upon and applied in different ways.
