Key Stage 4

Yearly Overview

Year 9

During your year 10 studies you will learn to structure an in-depth personal project. Your starting point will be a trip used as stimulus to develop ideas and outcomes related to one of three themes. You will focus on a set of skills within fine art practices and develop your technique and skills of these processes. We encourage you to make a selection of skills that you felt you were good at in year 9 to progress further with. Speak to your teacher regularly about how you can progress with your project, development of ideas and improve your skills. Year 10 will also see the introduction to a mock exam which will mirror the expectations of the real exam so you feel confident and ready in year 11. Go to the year 10 page to see more details about your project.

Year 10

In year 9 you will explore three main themes that are commonly explored by artists. Through skills based workshops you will unravel the themes of nature, places and the human form. The aim of the workshops is to provide you with the required skills to be able to lead independent projects throughout years 10 and 11. We will also be spending this time discussing and exploring different ideas within art, developing our thinking and learning how other artists have been inspired. The types of skills you will learn are fine art based drawing, painting, printmaking, digital art and some textiles methods. Please click on the year 9 page to see more details about this years project.

Year 11

Throughout year 9 and 10 your teachers have been providing you with the resources, skills and independent thinking you require in order to create your own personal and meaningful project. This year you will be introduced to one theme that is open-ended and it will allow you to really delve into your creative potential. Use the resources, links and suggestions on this website to get thinking and developing original ideas. On January 1st the GCSE exam paper is released and from this point you will focus on developing ideas and outcomes related to the exam theme provided. Use the year 11 page to explore possibilities and generate ideas.

'The artist is not a special kind of person; rather each person is a special kind of artist'.
